  • Dunnet Bay is currently seeking an experienced Project Engineer for our IL Division

    The Project Engineer is responsible for providing engineering and project support on our heavy highway construction projects. The engineer is expected to maintain a good knowledge of the contract plans and specifications, including subcontracts and purchase orders, and Dunnet Bay means and methods. Qualified individuals will have engineering experience with bridge construction projects for owners such as IDOT and the IL Tollway.

    Responsibilities:

    • Works with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foreman and Crews on the project.
    • Schedule and manage material deliveries – ensure that materials received are accompanied by proper certifications per the contract documents.
    • Compile and maintain project documentation including daily reports/schedules and jobsite photos
    • Monitor subcontractors schedule and progress
    • Order / Manage / Balance concrete pours
    • Assist with project closeout, finalizing quantities, and preparing job cost reports.
    • Follows Dunnet Bay Construction’s policies and procedures, including safety policies.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
    • 1-2 years heavy highway construction experience, preferred.
    • Must be safety oriented – 10-hour and 30-hour OSHA certificates are preferred.
    • Strong work ethic – willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
    • Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project etc.).
    • Working knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications.
    • Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate effectively with public body agencies.

    Physical Demands/Work Environment:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will required to be on site and access all points of the construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments. Employee is exposed to outside weather conditions as well as field office environments. Employee will on occasion assist in transporting materials from Dunnet Bays yard to the job site. Employee will on occasion work 2nd shift during construction stage/phase changes.

  • Dunnet Bay Construction is currently seeking an Estimator for our Glendale Heights, Illinois office.

    The Estimator will support and work with management, operations and estimating staff in the review of project plans, requirements and specifications. The Estimator shall have extensive knowledge of construction means and methods, costs and engineering principles. Qualified individuals will have estimating experience with bridge construction projects for owners such as IDOT and ISTHA.

    Responsibilities:

    • Review project plans, requirements and specifications.
    • Reviews and understands all bid documents and material requirements to assess constructability and product material requirements
    • Initiates subcontractor solicitations and quality discussions with subcontractors to gain detailed knowledge of portion of work for which the estimator is responsible. Prepares bid packages; involved comparison and analysis of competitive subcontractor and supplier bids. Requires understanding of market conditions
    • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs and materials pricing
    • Understand project logistics and project schedule
    • Prepare bid packages. Compare and analyze competitive subcontractor and supplier bids
    • Review quotes and estimates with the Project Management Team

    Qualifications:

    • 5 years of experience or College Degree with 3 years of experience
    • Experience estimating roadway and bridge construction projects.
    • Familiarity with estimating software (such as HCSS Heavy Bid, Heavy Job and Excel)
    • Extensive knowledge of construction costs and productivity.
    • Prioritize work load and consistently meet deadlines while constantly changing tasks and demands
    • Able to work independently without much supervision and able to work well with a team of estimators
    • Effective presentation skills
    • Excellent written and oral communicator
